About us
The State Choir “Vilnius” is a professional ensemble distinguished by its performance culture, versatility, and educational activities. The choir keeps pace with contemporary artistic developments while also preserving the classical heritage of past eras. Special attention is given to the dissemination of Lithuanian music—each year, premieres of works by contemporary Lithuanian composers are prepared, and outstanding pieces are recorded in the studio. “Vilnius” has already released 15 CDs, and 300 recordings of its works are محفوظ in the archives of the Lithuanian National Radio and Television.
A distinctive feature of the choir is the synthesis of creativity and professionalism, the ability to present music to diverse audiences, and the realization of unconventional events and projects. All of this has led to “Vilnius” being recognized as one of the finest choirs in Lithuania.
The choir’s artistic maturity has been shaped by its professional leadership. The current chief conductor, the renowned Lithuanian choral conductor and educator Artūras Dambrauskas, is charting new artistic directions for the ensemble, leading it toward innovative, diverse, and contemporary creative work.
The ensemble, which performs actively on an ongoing basis, is committed to the dissemination of choral art, introducing diverse audiences to original programs. The choir’s concerts are heard not only in major city venues but also in the most remote corners of the country. Future audiences are nurtured through playful and engaging programs specially designed for children.
Since 2011, the state choir “Vilnius” has organized the International St. James Festival, which has become an integral part of the capital’s cultural life, filling each autumn with the luminous sounds of sacred music.
The chief conductor of the choir “Vilnius” is the renowned Lithuanian choral conductor and educator Artūras Dambrauskas. Since 2009, Assoc. Prof. Dambrauskas has served as Head of the Department of Music Theory and Pedagogy at the Vytautas Magnus University Music Academy, where he teaches conducting and choral disciplines. He has repeatedly conducted at Lithuanian Song Celebrations and festivals, served as a jury member in both international and national competitions, and is the artistic director of the International St. James Festival.
Since 2015, when Artūras Dambrauskas assumed leadership of the state choir “Vilnius,” he has pursued changes in its creative strategy. By combining academic and lighter music in the repertoire, he enables the ensemble to reveal its multifaceted artistic character even more broadly.
